I wish that I could say that I started college immediately after high school and raced through it to obtain multiple higher-level degrees before I was thirty. I can’t. The reality is that I flitted from school to school over the years trying to find one that had an educational style which met my needs while offering job opportunities that made sense for my life.
Over the years, I discovered that knowing what you don’t want is sometimes just as important as knowing what you do want. For example, there was a time when I was looking into interior design programs in Sacramento. However, there were a few things that I knew about myself which led me to look at alternative schools.
One of the things that I knew was that I didn’t really like California so I figured maybe I should look at other design programs such as those offered at IADT Chicago. Another thing I knew was that I didn’t want to live in a big city so I started looking at smaller areas. And finally I knew that I didn’t like sitting at a computer all day. That knowledge led me to look at Gibbs health care training programs.
The process of getting from Point A to Point B required a lot of twists and turns in my education. In the end, that meant that I knew a lot about my own likes and dislikes. I think that makes me a happier employee today.
