If you’re planning a summer vacation to San Diego this year then there are some things that you should put on your itinerary for the trip. A lot of this stuff can really educate you while you’re there.
Fun educational stuff to do in San Diego includes:
- Kayaking at La Jolla. You can take guided kayak tours through the caves of La Jolla. As if that isn’t cool enough, you’ll have fun because there are otters and sea lions that will come right up to your kayak.
- Get some golf instruction at the San Diego Golf Academy. You can take some short-term classes at this golf school in San Diego and enjoy the beautiful golf courses of the city.
- Explore Balboa Park. The San Diego Zoo is the big thing that everyone sees here but there are so many smaller gardens and museums to explore here that you should plan to spend more than just a single day here.
- Tour a military boat. There are huge boats docked at the water that you can tour to learn more about the importance of the military in this city.
San Diego is a really cool city with a lot for you to do while you’re there. Don’t just go with the guidebooks; do a few of these other fun things as well.

I’ve always loved San Diego. The weather there is great, and there are a zillion things to do, including playing golf at one of the beautiful courses there. There are also some fine restaurants downtown in the Gaslamp Quarter, and tons of cool bars and places to hear music. San Diego is a must!

Hey, even if you don’t play golf, don’t want to go to the zoo, or even the Air and Space Museum, you can always go to the famous Comic-Con there. It’s a real trip, like a giant mosh pit for nerds.

The military boat tour is absolutely one of the coolest things that I’ve ever done. If you’re interested in aircraft carriers and other military craft, then you need to do this. If you like older ships, there’s always the Star of India tour, which is a lot of fun.

One of the best things about San Diego is all of the great restaurnts, or even some of the not-so-great restaurants that are just fun to go to, like Dick’s Last Resort. It’s a dump, but the ribs are good and the atmosphere is a noisy, chaotic blast. Kansas City BBQ down by the Convention Center has some of the best BBQ I’ve ever eaten. It’s not fancy, but it sure is good.

San Diego is one of the most fun cities in the whole U.S. Besides golfing at one of the gorgeous courses there, the nightlife is excellent, there are fun activities for kids, and it’s also a great town for music and art. Hit the downtown area around the Gaslamp Quarter to see what I’m talking about.

Since I’m a confirmed Beach Bunny, I love San Diego. It has some of the best beaches on the West Coast. I also like to go down there to ride on the old wooden roller coaster. If you get that far, be sure to get a burriot at Roberto’s; they’re the best.
