Adding a Business Degree to the Culinary Degree

Culinary students typically get college degrees that are somewhat related to business. For example, people attending one of the LCB Cooking Programs such as the program at Orlando Culinary School will typically get a degree such as the hospitality and restaurant management / occupational studies degree. This degree program teaches students the fine art of cooking but also teaches them the business of being a chef and operating a working restaurant.

Smart students will take this type of education one step further and actually go on to get a degree in business. This may simply be an associates degree in the general field of business or may be as advanced as an MBA. This depends on the ultimate goals of the culinary student.

The primary dream of most of the people who attend cooking schools is ultimately to own and operate their own restaurant. The skills that are learned through the business portion of culinary degrees can help with this. However, there is a lot to know about running a business. You have to understand everything from how to manage a full staff of people to how to do marketing and promotions to how to handle accounting and taxes. A business degree will give you these skills in a way that no culinary degree can match.
